I have a eldorado cadillac and everything was fine until a couple of days ago it became hard to start the motor has to turn over quite a bit before it will start and it runs rough just for a few seconds. Any ideals DEB
Have you noticed the condition improving if you shut the engine off and instantly restart it? Is the condition worse in the morning or does it not matter?
Let me know and we'll see what we can figure out....
Also, can you tell me the year?

Well sometimes it starts better but sometimes not. No it does not matter when you start it It only has 51000 miles on it
It sound as though you have a problem with the fuel pump. Any chance that you have access to a fuel pressure gage?
I checked to see if the fuel pump was making a noise with the gas cap off and it was. Do you know if this is one of those fuel pumps that is a major pain to change
I would not know how to use the gage if I did my husband is ill and he use to do all the work on everything. Now I am trying to learn.
Yes I probally have a fuel pressure gage there is just about everything in the shop we have a farm
The fuel pump on these are kind of tough to change but I don't want you to jump into replacing the pump without diagnosing the problem.
Let me know if you find your pressure gage and I'll tell you how to test it...

I will take it to a local shop and ask the guy there to test it for me. Maybe this will save me some time on the clock. I have an ideal where to start. I am sure this is going to set me back plenty as it is.... Plenty that we don't have with him being so ill. Thank-you so much for your help........DEB

I wish that I could have been more insightful, but without extensive testing, I don't want you replacing parts that may not be bad...
The fuel pump on these are kind of tough to change but I don't want you to jump into replacing the pump without diagnosing the problem... That is what I stated before you even accepted the answer. I really wish that you had communicated more with me. All of the experts on this site do our best to help diagnose problems vai internet.. Some problems are more indepth and without more information we can't go further in diagnosis. I wish that you would have atleast let me know before sending negitive feedback..All I was trying to do was to help diagnose the problem.
