Is there a limit to the amount of deductions an employee can claim before I, the employer, need to send copy of the W4 to the IRS?
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and hope I can help.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service today.

In the past, an employer was required to send in a W4 to the IRS if a person was claiming 10 or more allowances or was claiming to be entirely exempt from deductions.

However, now, the IRS no longer requires that employers routinely submit these forms to the IRS. Instead, employers are only required to submit W4 forms to ensure adequate withhold when specifically requested to do so by the IRS.

See the IRS' page on the topic here:

(On a complete aside, I am actually an Iowa City native myself, and gearing up for the Hawks season. Go Hawks! Unless you're a cyclones fan or other, then please disregard).

Please let me know if you have any follow up or clarifying questions regarding the above information.

Thanks and best of luck!

Thank you - that answers my question.

Funny - My daughter is starting college at ISU - Cyclones next Monday, so I have to be a Cyclone fan.

However, my husband is an alumni from the University of Iowa and will never stop being a Hawkeye fan!

Have a great day.

Hello Sharon,

Torn allegiances. That's tough. I bleed black and gold and will for life.

Happy to help and best of luck!
