If a churchs Employee Manual/Policy states that it is an equal

This answer was rated:

If a church's Employee Manual/Policy states that it is an equal opportunity employer, does that mean that the church cannot require employees to be a part of that religion. Many policy manuals I have seen require some type of statement of faith in order to be employed or volunteer.
Hello and welcome to JustAnswer.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and hope I can help.

No, unfortunately, the statement in the employee manual or policy that the church is an equal opportunity employer does not prevent the church from discriminating on the basis of religion for the employment of certain positions.

Churches are the only organizations that are allowed to discriminate on the basis of religion for employment purposes.
