i need a directory, or asource for all the manufacturers and disrtributor groups in the US. These are not to be confused with asscociations ,buying goups,co-ops or marketing groups. For example, a big manufacturer may have 400 distributors who meet 2 times a year and they would be referred to as a distributor group.

Dear Farrell,

Dun & Bradstreet publishes a classification of business based on their "SIC" code which can provide you what you need. SIC stands for Standard Industrial Classification and is a 4 digit code number used to organize business based on what they do, such as manufacturing or distributors. Any business section of a library should be able to help you find a copy.

Reply to Jane T's Post: thanks. i need a listing that gives the name of the companies that have official distributor groups and list the phone and contact(ex director) i'm not looking just for names of big companies that i'd find in d&b with the hope that they have a distributor group. rick

Actually, the D&B listing does not just have "big companies." Although D&B is large, its SIC classification even collects information on Mom & Pop businesses. If they file taxes, D&B is likely to list them.

To get contact information you would then have to cross reference the business name, but that can be done.
