From my personal experience, the Bissell ProHeat 2x works great. We have a dog, and child, so we use it often. It has 12 brushes, heats the water, has a good sized tank, and is very easy to use and clean out. What I like best about it is that it really pulls up almost all of the water it puts down. This is important to make sure you don't rot the flooring!

I also have a subscription to Consumer Reports, so here is the research part of my answer:

The top rated model is the Hoover Steam Vac V2 F7220-900. Next is the Bissell that I was telling you about. And third was the Dirt Devil Platinum Force MCE7900. The prices on each of those, in order, is $260, $250, and $200.
