When no ISBN, UPC, or ASIN is shown on product where can I find it? Many old books do not have an ISBN.

What in the hell do you mean "I have accepted no answers. I have received NO answers. If this is the way you usually do business how do expect us to buy a pig in a poke. There is no indication that any "experts" even looked at my question.

Many older books won't have an ISBN or identification code. If there is no code listing on the cover of the book, you can try looking inside the first few pages to find it. Some of the publishers put it on the title or info page when ISBN's first came around.

Response to tfalkner's Post: Is there an institution that keeps ISBN numbers of all printed material? Or, more to the point do some publication not have ISBN or LOC numbers?

Have you looked at collectorz.com? They have a section for books. If you download the software, you can search by title, author etc. Don't remember the all the databases it searches, but do know it checks LOC, Barnes & Noble, Amazon etc.

Do you want the identification for reselling or for your own knowledge?
Not that it makes a difference, but, if reselling and you can't find the ISBN, it helps to compare . I sell at iOffer and use several tools for pricing.
Alibris.com
Addall.com
are two sites that have good information. You could also check at community boards for book lovers. Many on those boards have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to share.

Response to funnyface's Post: I already use those plus Bookfinder. AddAll has more sources and includes Alibris. I'm starting to sell my collection on Amazon. If the book is not listed by someone else the ISBN or one of two other ID numbers must be given. Most of my old books have no ID's so I cannot list. Thanks for the advice.
