How would I go about getting into Baseball Spring Training?
Sent to General Experts July 31 02:03 PM

I want to play Major League baseball, but I'm in the military right now. So I'm unsure as to how I would go about getting onto a spring training team without being scouted from colleges and other places.

I thought there were baseball teams in the military just like they have football. That is where you start. Get on a team if you have a baseball background and if they want to try you out and the scouts will look for you. You can also try to get an agent outside of the military. Good luck and hope to see you in a Boston Red Sox uniform next year! My uncle was a scout for the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles at one time or another. His job was to keep track and stats of prospective new players in triple A and Double A leagues that the two above teams were interested in.

Hope I Helped :)

Reply to Andy Lambert's Post: The thing is...that the Air Force team is for Air Force Academy people I thought...I could be wrong. I was wondering in case I cna't make it on the Air Force team...if there was any way possible to go to some sort of a try out before spring training starts and get on a team that way?

You need to contact the farm team managers and convince them that you can play. This is not too promising however as there is already a lot of talent for them to hash through already with the people they have. You have to work your way up. It's a business and like any other business you have to climb up the ladder. You can't start near the top. They want to see stats, they usually won't talk to a kid who comes along and says he can play baseball. They have heard this a zillian times. My uncle has since passed on but his son is a physical trainer for the Astros. Contact the Houston Astros and ask to speak with Leo Labossiere JR.

IF they let you through tell him that his cousin Pauline and her husband (me) Andy Lambert from Cumberland have suggested that you try out for the team. Sometimes you have to have a connection. I don't know if it will get you anywhere but it's always worth a shot, you never know until you try. It is better to have asked and been told no than it is to never have asked and wonder the rest of your life what could have been.

You can try "Peanuts" Hemond with the Oriole organization too. Tell them that you are a friend of the late Leo Lobassiere's (Senior, the father) niece Pauline. He is a manager so he may be harder to get a hold of but you never know. Good luck!
