Reply to ResearchGuru aka Emily's Post: I just wanted a college that has "CHEAP" tuition but is nationally accredited through the process of acredidation such as the University of any state. For instance: Minnesota State University etc. In the Masters level. Correspondence and or internet. My career is not established and I'm still looking . Mostly a degree of any sort exceept bussiness. I hate bussiness degrees. Anything else the college may offer. Psychology, sociology, education etc. Doesn't matter. Need to know soon. I have researched and found the colleges costing too much such as 40,000 dollars for a degree in counseling. Thousand dollars a credit is too uch and rediculus.

Hi-

Boy do I agree with you about the price of higher education. According to my research, the least expensive accredited online school offering a Masters in something other than business is Baker College. Their price per credit is $285 (compare to the typical price per credit for online schools, which is about $500 - see University of Phoenix for an example). For a list of their master's programs, see:

The cheapest seems to be Kaplan - they offer a Masters in Education and/or Criminal Justice (which can be used for working as a probation officer, in the social work field, etc.) for about $300-350 per credit.

Reply to ResearchGuru aka Emily's Post: Still nothing with counseling, or psychology? The education degrees at the last college would not accept me due to not being a teacher already/.   I need a college that accredits a person who has no education bachelors.

If you're really looking for a psychology/counseling degree, you'll have to pay a bit more - the cheapest is about $500. Since you're already in this price range, you can choose from schools such as:

City University (most likely the cheapest for a MA in Couseling), at: http://www.cityu.edu/ovw_admissions.htm

The University of Phoenix, at: http://www.phoenixdegrees.com/UPJ_10188/info.cgi?site_id=0000617056&media_id=0000227261&otrm=114138&xssale=$xssale&xsmemid=$xsmemid&osss=1&omss=0&xstrtype=4&is_rich=1&creative_size=468060#

Walden University, at: http://www.allonlineschools.net/school/501/?position=2&area=area1

Reply to ResearchGuru aka Emily's Post: This is starting to realy stink. Phoinex doesn't have coun seling or psychology because I am in Wyoming. Can't understand it. The other college won't give you any information without waiting through the mail. They made a huge mistake.

There's got to be a university that offers counseling cheaper.

Hi-

I know it's frustrating - and most of these schools do require you to request information before they disclose tuition fee's (a way to "suck you in").

What about the first school on the list? City University? They offer a MA in Counseling Psychology. Check out the courses:

http://www.cityu.edu/sas_gd_counselingpsy.htm

Plus the tuition seems to be $418 per credit for US students. See here:

http://www.cityu.edu/adm_tuition.htm

For proof of their accrediation, see here:

http://www.cityu.edu/pro_accreditation.htm

Hi Alpastor-

The City University is actually incorporated in Washington State, and appears to have good credentials (e.g., most schools should view the degree as valid), although to double check it would be in your best interests to contact them. They can be reached at 425.709.7631.

Another school you may want to consider is Capella University, found at:

http://www.capella.edu/default.aspx

Their tuition is based per course, but acutally works out to be under $400 per credit. See:

http://www.capella.edu/tuition_financial_aid/tuition_financial_aid_index.aspx

Airframe mechanics and counseling - intresting combo. But it's great that you have a lot of different interests in life. And it's also great that you're a pastor - much respect!

Could you tell me what your undergraduate degree is in? Again, this will better assist me. Thanks!

How about the University of Wyoming - you do live in the state, correct?

They offer online degrees at the Master's level in social work (which seems like something you would love) and public administration (probably less so). Click here for more info.

PLUS, the cost per credit for instate students is only $159 per credit! See here.

Obviously this isn't a correspondence school, but most people would consider the UW a much better school than any correspondence school out there.

Reply to ResearchGuru aka Emily's Post: Bachelor of science in psychology abd sociology
bachelor of arts in ministerial and youth ministries

Cost me a fortune.....$50,000 dollars, but I have never made over 20,000 dollars in a life time. That was once. Mostly 15,000 dollars a year and with 5 kids. Our church now has 4 people. I am overwhelmed and complaining too much. I apologize in prayer but it hurts all the same. The colleges charge a fortune and the churches I get are small. But God supplies every need. Now I am 41 and would like to have a side job to help me with the ministry of being a pastor and raising a family by getting another degree that gets me somewhere.

That's the beauty of it - the Social Work degree is ONLINE! Just like a correspondence school but BETTER (and cheaper)!

BTW, I'm all for complaining about the cost of higher education. It's wonderful that the world has people like you, though - willing to help people without needing to earn big bucks. It is certainly tough though, and I completely understand your desire to be doing something a bit more financially sound, while still helping others.

Definitely look into social work - with your background, getting a job with the government or a private agency would be easy, and the pay is definitely more than what you're making now. You would obviously still be helping others, and the benefits are increadible.
