I have 2 letters from collection agencies. one is from south

I have 2 letters from collection agencies. one is from south Dakota and one is from California.(2 completely diiferent companies and 2 different states. heres the problem. they both have the same amount and same original creditor, and the same account
number. somebody is doing something wrong. how could this happen? what should I do? do you think one of them did not get the ldebt assigned to them? please help

I am sorry to learn of this potentially fraudulent matter.

Start by issuing a "verification request" to both collection agencies, and copy the original creditor. See: http://www.creditinfocenter.com/forms/sampleletter9.shtml

By copying all 3 businesses, this should help "flush out" the issue.

If you find that one is engaged in fraudulent practice, report it to your state's attorney general: http://ag.wyo.gov/cpu/consumer-complaints
