My ex & I just broke up almost 2 wks ago he's been arrested for hitting his ex wife...He supposedly filed for joint guardianship is this the same as joint custody or different...
Hi - my name is Kirk. Thanks for your question.

A joint guardianship is different than joint custody. A joint guardianship is generally used when a parent wants to appoint a non-parent as an additional guardian over the child, and this is most often used in situations where the parent is sick, possibly terminally ill.

Joint custody is sought by a parent to have physical and/or legal custody along with the other parent. This doesn't involve a third party.

IF your ex is dealing with the other parent, he's likely seeking joint custody - - not joint guardianship.
