I own a for profit school supply business.I would also like to start a non profit organization that gives supplies classroom. Would there be a conflict if my business sold these items to the non-profit
While the non-profit can purchase supplies needed for their operations, purchasing them from your business could be considered self-dealing as you are personally profiting from your non-profit. These are known as self dealing transactions and are prohibited unless the full board of your non-profit has knowledge and approves such purchases from your for profit corporation. If your board of directors of your non-profit approves the purchases and you are selling the items to the non-profit at fair market value, then it is not illegal to do so.
