Customer Question

I have a 2004 Buick Lesabre Custom and about 2 weeks ago I was having an issue where the car would take a couple of tries to turn over or I would have to pump the gas pedal to turn over plus as it was running on the highway it would periodically start chugging usually when going up a hill. Last week it stopped turning over period. I cleaned my MAF hoping it would be an easy fix and I had already changed out the intake air temperature sensor previously to see if that would help as well. I did some research and had a good indication that it was my fuel pump so I changed out my fuel pump and I went ahead and changed my fuel filter at the same time. Unfortunately it didn't take and it still wont turn over, it sounds like it wants to but it just wont. That's where I'm at now and I'm not sure what else the problem could be.

No it will crank and it feels like it wants to turn over but it wont
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

Unpug the mass airflow sensor and let me know if it starts.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok I unplugged the MAF and tried to start it, still the same, it'll crank but no turn over
Customer: replied 12 days ago.
I had tried cleaning the MAF previously and it is fairly new, maybe a year at the most
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

Try to see if it runs on starting fluid.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok and just to make sure I do it right where would I spray the starting fluid?
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

Into the throttle body. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok I'm going to grab so starter fluid from the store now and I'll be back shortly
Customer: replied 12 days ago.
will you still be online here?
Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok got the starter fluid put in the throttle body and still no turn over, I tried twice
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

Check for spark now, let me know. Thanks.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok, any suggestions on how to check for spark?
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

Either a spark tester or ground it out and watch for spark while someone else turns over engine. Let me know, thanks.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Ok since I dont have a spark tester when you say ground it out do you mean to use a screwdriver and test them at the ignition coils?
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

No you will need to ground out spark plug with spark plug attached to wire.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
Oh ok so take out the spark plug, attach the wire back to it and try and crank the engine then?
Expert:  Dan replied 12 days ago.

That is correct, you will probably need someone else to crank engine to get a good view.
