94 Buick 2.2 will start, will run. There's not enough power

Customer Question

94 Buick 2.2 will start, will run. There's not enough power to even pull itself up on car ramps. It accelerates very reluctantly on the highway and will not shift without coaxing (e.g. letting up on the acceleration when it gets to a certain speed). It shakes when it starts, and will continue to shake until it gets to about 25 mph.

good afternoon my name is ***** ***** I will assist

first, it could be a clogged cat converter. that would not let the motor breathe.

low fuel pressure would also do this.

timing may also have jumped.

I put a vacuum gauge on it at idle and had 20 inches. have not checked the vacuum under a load.
what should the timing be at idle? I've got a reader and it says it's about 7 degrees at idle, when i race the motor it's around 40.

timing sounds about right.

check the vacuum under a load. remove the o2 sensor and se if it runs better

check the fuel pressure.. low pressure system. 9-12 lbs

I'm going to go out and pull the o2 sensor. I will try to find where i could plug in my gauge to get a fuel pressure reading.
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 11 months ago.

you will need a t fitting off the fuel filter

Roy

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Pulled the o2 sensor and hooked up a vacuum gauge. held the pedal to the floor and it went up to about 3000 rpm, dropped off, came back, dropped off, came back and so on.

try driving it and see if it has any power

Roy

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
backed off the ramps and tried to pull back up. maybe a little more power than before, maybe 5% more, if that.
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
still shaking as hard as before when in drive.
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 11 months ago.

ok, I would try unbolting the front pipe from the manifold and try driving again. the hole for the o2 sensor is small

Roy

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
still not full power.
Expert:  Roy Belding replied 11 months ago.

ok, check fuel pressure and I would also do a compression test
