Hello, my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help get your problem solved. This most likely means the compressor is failing. The air bladders wouldn't intermittently leak but the compressor would intermittently come on. To know for sure you need a scan tool capable of commanding on compressor during problem. If compressor isn't able to be commanded on next step would be verifying power/ground at compressor is good then replacing. You can replace yourself to save a couple hundred. Let me know if you have more questions or if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks.
