Customer Question

I recently purchased a 01 century with 135k miles. I notice a faint tapping noise, which sounds like a valve tap or rod knock. I am planning on taking a trip and wonder if I should be concerned. Thank you

ok these engine were notorious for a piston slap noise that was loud cold but as it warmed up it got quiter.now if this is the noise you are hearing the cars engine is fine this noise will NOT damage anything at all as its just the piston heads slapping when the connecting rod transissions over during its stroke.the other noise it can be is possibly a lifter just loosing some of its prime but that noise would be a rappid ticking noise. the piston noise CAN be fixed by replacing 4 out of the 6 pistons with updated pistons with a coating on them to stop this noise.but like i said if you leave it it will NOT damage anything at all.i am 99% sure you will be fine for your trip since the oil is clean and full.if it is the piston slap noise which most are it will be fine to drive
