the engine in my 1996 buick regal has just stopped running several times over the last few months while driving. i stop and it restarts right away, but it's very troubling and potentially dangerous depending on where this occurs. my mechanic cannot find anything wrong

very carefully with the engine running try tapping on the crank sensor with a long prybar or something like that if the engine stalls you will need to replace the crank sensor. you will only be able to see the connector but if you can put your bar on the connector and lightly tap it. try that out and let me know how you make out
i had my mechanic perform this test and it did not stall.
ok. i'll have him check those as well. thanks.

going to take it to another guy. not sure he conducted a proper test. i'll sign off now.
Intermittent problems can be very hard to find. Testing will only yield results when the problem is occurring. Even tapping on things as I have suggested may not yield results even if the part you are tapping is causing the problem. They really should be driving this with a scan tool on it in hopes of it dying and being able to see what is happening.
