Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will do my best to help you with your Buick problem.

A common problem on these engines is an upper intake manifold coolant leak due to burn through of the egr passage. When this happens, coolant can fill the intake and the cylinders, causing a hydrostatic lock. Remove the spark plugs from all cylinders, then turn the engine over to push the coolant out of the cylinders. If you find that there is coolant in the cylinders causing the problem then the upper intake manifold will need to be replaced.

could it be a timing chain problem?

Not likely a timing chain issue. We do not see timing chain failures on this engine, even with lots of miles.
