it is a rare thing to happen but it does once in a blue moon.but some fuel pools up in the intake and when that fuel ignites it will blow it up.who put the lock in?may i ask why the ignition lock was being changed?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.

a gm dealership instlled the lock because the key would not go to lock it was always on and killed the battery

it more than likey was cranking over slow and or with the battery low it cranked over slow and pooled up some fuel in the upper intake and that caused the could of happened to anyone that cranked it over when the battery was 25 years ive seen it happen 2 times and both was from a weak battery and it cranking over slow then when a boost pack or jump was used when it cranked over normal speed it ignited the fuel that pooled up in the upper intake
