How do I replace the rear license plate lights on a 98 buick century ? Its my husbands car, and he is deployed, so I cannot ask him.

GM Tech (Cam) :

Hello, I'm Cam. Please include all the details about your issue so I can accurately advise you. I cannot see your vehicle so please be detailed.

GM Tech (Cam) :

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid applique harness.

  2. Remove the wing nuts from the studs on the rear compartment lid applique.

  3. Remove the rubber grommet where the harness passes through the rear compartment lid.

  4. Remove the rear compartment lid applique from the rear compartment lid.

  5. Remove the harness and the connector from the rear compartment lid.

  6. Remove the sockets from the rear compartment lid applique.

  7. Remove the harness from the rear compartment lid applique.

GM Tech (Cam) :

  1. Rotate the license lamp socket(s) counterclockwise to release from the license lamp(s) on the rear compartment lid applique.

  2. Remove the bulb(s) from the socket(s).

Customer:

uummm.. i thought it was just removing the cover over the bulbs, and replacing the bulbs? I was told all i would need is a phillips screwdriver to do this... but, there was not any screws, just a small cover on each side

GM Tech (Cam) :

Is there a small screw there? If there is then yes, you can take the screws out and pull the bulb out, but be careful you don't smash the bulb.

Customer:

just a small cover over each light, not more than an inch long each one... no screws in sight

GM Tech (Cam) :

Ok, then you need to follow the instrcutions I posted.

Customer:

i do not know what a rear compartment lid applique harness is

GM Tech (Cam) :

The harness is the wiring under the plastic, this is done from inside the lid of the trunk.

Customer:

so i need to take the complete taillight plastic piece off first ?

GM Tech (Cam) :

yes.

Customer:

sigh... ok,thanks. Its more involved than I was led to believe, for what I am able to do here at the moment.

GM Tech (Cam) :

Sorry, is there more that I can get you today?

Customer:

no, i am going to have to wait on fixing it, i guess.
