Buick Repair Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
Good evening. Can you tell me, Are your brake lights working?
With your key in the on position if you push your brakes can you hear a clicking sound in the steering column?
Also you have a floor shift model or a column shift model?
Please let me know. Thanks, Josh
the brake lights are working, no clicking sound in the steering column and i have a floor shift model.
when i push the gear knob i hear a sound on the steering wheel area.
Do you have a multi-meter or a test light to diagnose the electrical circuits or do you want the most probable cause?
Okay. The most likely cause is that the shifter assembly itself needs to be replaced. There is an electronic solenoid that releases the shifter handle to allow you to change gears. When the solenoid fails, the failsafe is to remain locked in Park...
The shifter assembly's are a very common problem and are normally kept in stock at your local Buick dealer. If memory serves the cost of the shifter assembly is about $120...
Please let me know if there's anything else that can help with.
where is the solenoid situated.
Unfortunately, the shifts all my is an integral part of the shifter assembly.
Why they didn't make the solenoid a serviceable piece is beyond me...
