Will pulling the kill lanyard stop the engine?

Since you have already replaced the key switch, the issue will be one of two things. A short in the harness between the engine and the helm, or a short on the engine harness itself. Only an inspection of both will point to the cause. If the boat has been sitting, it is possible that a rodent got into the boat and chewed on the main harness. I see this more often in boats stored in the country, but can happen anywhere.
