I am trying to remove the lower unit to replace the impeller

Customer Question

I am trying to remove the lower unit to replace the impeller assy. on a 6 hp tohatsu outboard. It is a 2009 mfs 456 mod. 6bs. The shift lever shaft will not come down with the lower unit. How do I get it to come with the lower unit?

To gain access to the shift connector, you need to remove part 7 in the diagram. It is a rubber plug that with it out, you can see the clamp that is holding the two shift shafts together.
