Te brace is the one built onto the mounting bracket of the motor.

Ok, to remove it, there is a roll pin pressed into the plastic cap. Use a small punch and drive the pin out. Then you an remove the cap, and spring. After that is removed, you can take the tilt lock out of he bracket. The roll pin is part 10 in that diagram.
