Have Boat Questions? Ask a Boat Repair Expert.
Hi Dan, my name is Jason.
Is the starboard engine not starting? Or does it start, but just no lights?
Are you still with me?
Have you swapped the lights left to right yet to rule that out?
Did you swap the actual cluster itself?
Are you near the motor now, and do you have a volt meter?
You need to check for power out of the purple wire on the key switch and see if you have power on that wire with the key in both the run and start positions. When do you think you can get near the boat?
Okay let me now what happens
Are you getting power at the purple wire at the cluster?
Also, what is the serial number on the engine?
What is the serial number on the engine?
That's not the correct number. The serial will be on a sticker on the clamp bracket, starboard side.
The 6 should be a letter, not a number, can you have another look at that and see what letter it is.
Got it. Swap the main power relay from one engine to the other and let me know if it now works or not.
Its next to the trim relays. There are 3 relays along the side of the engine. If you can't find the trim relays, just hit your trim buttons up and down and you should hear them click. s
Hello, my name is***** you still need assistance with this engine?
OK, does the boat have any kill switches?
Is it only one or two? Either way, swap the black and yellow wires from one engine side to the other. Then try both keys, see if the problem follow to the port engine or stays on the STBD.
At the key switches. The black/yellow wires are the kill switch wires.
There are no time limits here. We can pick this up any time that you need to. I have a DR. appt tomorrow morn, but I should be on after that.
Try that first, then let me know the results.
