Customer Question

I HAVE A HOUSEBOAT, SUMERSET 2006, WITH 2 MERCRUISER 5.0 MPI, 265 HORSEPOWER ENGINES. THE STARBOARD ENGINE HAS RUN GREAT UNTIL ABOUT A WEEK AGO, AND I CAN'T KEEP IT RUNNING. WHEN I START IT YOU CAN KEEP IT RUNNING AT 2000 RPM BUT WHEN YOU TRY AND IDLE IT WILL DIE. GOT ANY IDEAS WHAT I NEED TO DO. FRED HASSLOCH

Hello Fred. My name is Tan.

This is a bad IAC (idle air control) valve # 16. http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MER862998

This is a common failure on these engines. This controls the amount of air the engine needs when at idle. When it fails the engine will not idle. If you advance the throttle the engine will run. So replace the IAC and this will resolve your issue. http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury_marine_parts/sn/0W631029/4M42027TT/11681_100
