Hello. My name is Tan.

Could I get make, model and serial number of your engine please?

When you say stop do you mean it quits cranking or quits running? If it quits running will it restart?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
350 mercruiser
No it will cut out all of a sudden and not restart no sound out gauge movement
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Like it's completely dead
Expert:  Tan replied 3 months ago.

If you turn key on right now do the gauges come on?

Do you have a volt meter to do some voltage tests?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I got it to crank over again then just quit now it's dead again like no power going to starter nor to gauge
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No I do not have a voltmeter just a circuit tester
Expert:  Tan replied 3 months ago.

Ok these are all signs of a bad or dirty battery connection either on the battery or on the engine. Check all the connections both positive and negative on the battery and the engine.

Post back with findings.

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I replaced the positive from starter solenoid the rest appear to be ok
Expert:  Tan replied 3 months ago.

Have you verified the negative cable. Your symptoms are voltage loss and the only way that happens is with a bad ort corroded connection. If you had a volt meter we could find the issue .

We can try the circuit tester but it won't tell us actual voltage. Connect the tester to the red wire on the key switch does it light up? If yes then turn the key to start does the light go out?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I think I made it worst there was a fuse like holder on dash for ignition red wires plugged into it I piped it out now I cannot put it back in. I will try replacing the negative terminal tomorrow it looks corroded inside
Expert:  Tan replied 3 months ago.

Loose connection or corrosion is causing the problem. What happens is the loose or corroded connection will work till it get hot then you loose continuity and that when the voltage goes away. So one of the 2 is the problem.

Post back if you still have an issue. I will be available tomorrow.

Thank you if this does fix the issue.
