i donot have the correct prop for my merc.v40 outboard the motor is pushing a 16foot runabout and the speed is such that i can walk faster and some vibration

According to the specs that I can get on this engine, you should be running a 10x19P prop. If you cannot run at least 5000 RPM, the engine may not be running correctly and would need to have a compression test done on it to ensure that the block is still in good shape.
