Hello, my name is***** will assist you. I have a few questions back for you.

What is the brand, and HP of the engine?

What is the brand and model of the boat?

What pitch prop are you using and what is the max rpm that you can get out of the engine?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Mercury 150 HP XR2
Winner 1987 Tournament Series boat
Not sure on prop pitch......Max RPM's when It gets on plane is about 6000
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

Got it.

How long has the engine had this issue?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
probably a couple of years on and off...seems not to do it as bad at the beginning of the season buts gets worse as season progresses
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
serial number of engine is OB122535
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

Alright.. Do you know the compression numbers on the engine?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Not exactly....I had a piston replaced about 1.5 years ago.....mechanic said compression was low...but it didn't help. I'm thinking it was low 120's on each
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I had the piston replaced, carbs cleaned, and electrical system troubleshoot, and nothing seems to help
Customer: replied 11 months ago.
some reeds replaced
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

Alright, we are going to need to start there and do a spark test. If it is way off, the engine will never run correctly, no matter what I have you do. You should be able to rext a spark tester and a compression gauge from a chain auto parts store.

if compression was low on a cylinder would it run ok after getting on plane?
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

It could yes. Idle and speeding up would be affected.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
starts immediately and idles great
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

The engine will run on as little as 80 PSI of compression on all 6, but it will not have very much power.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
OK I have a gauge and can check do I continue this chat in a few days?
Expert:  Charles replied 11 months ago.

Simply reply back to the thread as you have been doing already. I will get the reply and we can pick right back up where we left off. Make sure that you pull all 6 plugs before starting the test.
