Hello Kenneth, my name is***** will assist you.Which tach does your boat have? Digital or analog?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Analog. I have replaced it, checked fuses.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
what does it do when you turn the key on?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It does jump to 1 or two thousand then drop back to zero at idle.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Have you tested the voltage going to it when the engine is running?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not yet.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Ok, you will need to set your multimeter to AC volts to see any reading. If you get 0 between the ground post and the signal wire, you have a bad connection or a broken wire some place in the harness.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I'll check when I get back. Thanks
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Your welcome. Let me know how it goes.

Where would the signal wire come into the engine. This one doesn't use an igniter.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
It comes from the ECU.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
14.8v dc nothing ac
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
0.12v ac
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Ok, go back to the engine and remove the top cowl. On the right hand side of the engine, you should see all of the harness connections. Look for one that may have become unplugged.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not seeing anything unplugged. Is there one in particular carrying the signal wire?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Yes. It is the same color of green wire that is on the back of the tach that you should have tested for AC volts earlier.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Okay. Thought maybe so. The big one one the ECU. Looks good. Maybe electrical lube in the plug? Would unplugging the battery reset anything?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
The battery no it will not. You can try to unplug the ECU, with the key OFF. Then plug it back in and make sure that it is secure. Also loog on the lower right side where all of the connections are and make sure that they are all tight.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Okay. Only thing I have done is continuity of the wire.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Is it good from end to end? Have you recently installed anything into the boat?
