Have a twin engine console and was trying to see if my fuel

Customer Question

Have a twin engine console and was trying to see if my fuel gauge was inop. When I hotwired left side Gauges to right side, I shorted out the right panel and when I turn the key on its as if there is no power but my left engine panel has power. I can hot wire the opposite panel and all the gauges work but the ignition switch won't turn on power. Did I short out my ignition switch?

Remove the engine cover and locate the fuse holder and check the 10 amp fuse on the engine.

Ok, will check it tomorrow.

The fuse is to protect the wiring harness so it is what has probably blown. Replace the fuse and you should be OK. Let me know what you find.

Thank you for the help! I am an active duty pilot in the Coast Guard stationed in Kodiak Alaska.

Well stay warm. Next time you want to check a fuel gauge just short between the sender and ground terminals and the gauge should go to full. If not the gauge is bad. You should have a positive volt, neg. volt and sender terminals.

Excellent advice, the fuse was blown. I replaced it and the engine started up.

Great! Helo or fixed wing?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I have flown both. I fly C-130's now but flew the Army helo's and Coast Guard helo's
