I'm not sure if you worded that correctly or not. When you say "into the lower unit". Are you asking if engine oil can actually get inside of the lower unit? Or do you mean more or less on top of the lower unit? For example, if you dropped the lower and a bunch of engine oil came out.

Also, what size is the engine?
