I had a short in my 17 foot boat and all wires burned out

Customer Question

I had a short in my 17 foot boat and all wires burned out Except for the main cables positive and negative. The running lights, gas gauge, radio and speedometer wire are all burned. What would be the estimate to rewire this? Thanks Hank***@******.***

Hello, my name is***** will assist you today.

Did all of the damage happen inside the console?

How are the wires to the tach?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
All 16 gauge wires burned under console all the way to battery.

First thing, have you found and corrected the short in the boat?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Not being knowledgeable in wiring I believe it started from running light switch which was used for 1st. time when short accured
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Have not corrected short that is why I am talking to you to get estimate on repairs.

As far as the cost to repair this goes, you are looking at a bunch of wire. Possibly 25Ft or more to do it all correctly. A bunch of connectors and time. I would bid this at 2 hrs labor and around $100 to cover all of the parts in the job.

You omitted average labor cost per hour. How much per hour?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.

That depends on your local shops. At my shop it is $85/hr. My old shop in the Fl Keys was at $115/hr
