Hello. My name is Tan.

This is a torn u-joint bellows #9 or a torn shift bellows. The bellows will tear with age when you tilt the drive up it opens the tear up allowing water in the bellows then in through the transom assembly just above the drive shaft or in around the shift cable.

U-joint bellows # ***** http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Mercruiser/Bravo%20Three%20%28Drive%20%26%20Transom%29/0F730000%20THRU%200M100000/BELL%20HOUSING/parts.html

Shift cable bellows # ***** http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Mercruiser/Bravo%20Three%20%28Drive%20%26%20Transom%29/0F730000%20THRU%200M100000/GIMBAL%20HOUSING/parts.html

When you tilt the drive down the bellows tear closes slowing the water from coming in.. In both cases the drive has to be removed to replace the bellows.

Post back with questions. Thank you....Tan
