Customer Question

Hi there I am Jerret Kubick owner of marine specialty in wilson KS. I have a volvo 8.1l gsi the is poping in the intake. I pulled the spark plugs and number eight was black and sooty as heck. Number 7 the same but not as bad. replaced all pugs and number 8 coil. still poping when you throttle up. I am wondering if it could be valves or something compression was all even.

Hi Jerret, my name is Jason.

What were your compression numbers?

Have you thrown a vacuum gauge on the engine to see if there was any flutter?

Does it pop at idle, or only when you throttle up?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
when you throttle up.
where to hook vacuum gauge?
i am looking for the numbers
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.

You could unplug the fuel pressure regulator and stick the vacuum gauge on that hose

How old is the gas in the boat, and have you run it on another fuel supply yet? Also, have you checked fuel pressure?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I have not checked fuel pressure. fuel is fresh.

Let me know what you get for compression numbers. After that, hook up a fuel pressure gauge and duplicate the problem, and see what it's running for fuel pressure and let me know about that as well.
