We have a mercury EFI big foot four stroke 50 motor on

Customer Question

Hi. We have a mercury EFI big foot four stroke 50 motor on a pontoon. I was pulling a tube behind the boat and it beeped twice. I turned it off then restarted and drive it back to shore. No more beeping. Any ideas? Help. Thanks!

Thanks, ***** ***** know if the engine revved u just before the alarm?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't think so.

How did it run on the way back to shore?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just fine. No issues.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
ok,I am thinking that you had an overspeed on the engine. With it running good back to shore and not having an issue, I think that it was an one time event.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok whew. Good. When you say overspeed, did I push the handle down too far for too long?
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Really with what you have told me, it sounds like you have just cavitated the engine, basically caught air with the prop. this caused an overspeed for just an instant and they you had the alarm.

Ok. Thank you very much, Charles.
