We have a sea Ray 220 select and we replaced the batteries

Customer Question

We have a sea Ray 220 select and we replaced the batteries due to no power. The boat still wont start. It's a 2008 model and was recently serviced. We feel that maybe we are missing a switch that needs to be turned on or something

Hello my name is ***** ***** am I speaking with?
When you turn the key to RUN, is there any power to the keyswitch, do the gauges come alive and is there a beep?
Also, on the batteries, is there any chance that either battery was hooked up backwards even for an instant?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Batteries are hooked up correctly. The boat was doing the same thing with old batteries. No power no beep etc

Are you near the boat now? Do you have a voltmeter or test light, and do you know how to take basic voltage measurements?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes..already did that
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What exactly should we test?
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
There is a circuit breaker on top of the engine, and the beaker has 2 posts on the back of it. I want to see if you have power on both posts, 1 post, or no post. Are you near the boat now?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
We are on the boat now .. Give us one minute. Checking now
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes getting 12 volt
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
On both posts?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes on both
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
What color wires do you have on each battery terminal?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Black on negative .. Red on positive
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Hmm... You should have a big yellow cable down in there someplace. Look very carefully were all of the battery cables are, is there a big yellow cable down in there anyplace?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Only red black no yellow at battery
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Do you want me to take a picture and send it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just sent picture
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you still here?
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Hmmm, i'm surprised there is no Yellow.... You do have power in and out of the breaker. So the next step is to check for power on the red/purple wire at the key switch. Check that next.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No key switch run start toggle .. Factory on 2008 boat
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Just checked no power there
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
We found the wire and no power
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Can I get the serial number on the engine. If you have power at the breaker but not the run switch then there is either a blown fuse or something else going on, and I need to pull up a wiring diagram.

Got it. Now if you look up under the wheel, I that area you should see a fuse block. Do you see it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes we see it
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
you should see 2 different 15 amp fuses in that fuse block. Check both fuses. 1. Are either blown? 2. Pull those fuses out, do you show power to the fuse socket?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
They are both good
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Is there power to the fuse sockets?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes power to fuse socket
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Well at this point the problem is a broken wire between the fuse block and the run switch. The flow of power goes from the breaker, to the fuse block, to the run switch. You have power at the breaker and at the fuse block, but no power at the run switch. So if you are sure that you are using your meter the correct way. The problem is a broken wire between the fuse block, and the run switch. Does that make sense?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok we have wire so we are going to try that
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Okay run a new wire from the fuse block over to the run switch. Unless there is something else wrong it should start. Let me know what happens.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
It wasn't the wire. Finally fixed it and it was the ignition reset switch
