I have a 1998 Johnson 150 model J150ELECD that is hard to start

Customer Question

I have a 1998 Johnson 150 model J150ELECD that is hard to start and cuts out after running at full throttle for a min like it is starving for fuel or sucking air. Has new primer bulb and new fuel pump. checked for fuel leaks but none found.

Hello my name is ***** ***** am I speaking with? When did this problem start? Have you tried pumping the primer bulb over and over to keep it going?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it started at the end of last year. yes pumping the bulb did not help it will run fine as long as you dont open it all the way up. I would say about 80 or 90% throttle and it does fine

Is it hard to start when cold?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yeah. If you run it shut it off for 5min and try to start it, it will start right up. but if it sets for 30 or 50 min between starting it its hard to start
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Once it does re-start will it run normally?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yeah. besides the cutting out at wide open
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
you've got 2 different problems going on. the hard to start after sitting 1/2 hour or more is vapor lock.On the first problem. Have you run a compression test yet?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yeah last year can remember the numbers they were all over 100 and with in 5psi
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Got it. The test here is what needs to be done is a fuel pressure gauge needs to get hooked up on the output side of the VRO pump and you would go and run the engine and duplicate the problem, and what your looking for is to see if it shows any kind of fuel pressure in the moments before it stalls. Or, if there is no pressure before the engine stalls. Is that something you think you can do?

yeah
