Customer Question

I have a 2013 Mercury 30 hp 4 stroke. The engine cranks and runs at about half throttle but sputters when I increase the throttle. Engine doesn't die just runs at a low rpm and feels like can't get gas. What is wrong?

Hello, my name is***** you for allowing me to assist you today.

Has the engine been sitting for some time?

How is the oil level?

Portable tank or installed?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Has been sitting for about 6 weeks. Has a portable gas tank.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Ok,
First thing is to make sure that the vent is open on the tank.

Then check the fuel for water. It is really easy to buy water at a gas station.

Does squeezing the primer bulb over and over help the motor sped up?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
The vent cap is open. Really doesn't help to squeeze the primer
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Alright,
Can you get a sample of the fuel that is in the tank?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yes.
Expert:  Charles replied 1 year ago.
Put it into a glass jar and see if there is more than one layer in the jar after allowing it to settle for a few minutes.

Ok
