I had to replace the water pump on a 1993 evinrude 60 hp. I had to disconnect the forward reverse rod right under the carburetor by pushing inward .I cannot get it to reconnect.it appears to be locked in gear cannot get the prop to spin in either direction. it will move about 5 or 6 inches either way.there is a hole at the end of the shaft .the end of the shaft has a curve in it which way should the curve be turned?

The curve should face forwards, towards the front of the engine.

The top rod under the carb.... I'm not sure what you mean by that unless I was looking at it myself.
This is very very tricky to do with the carbs (bottom carb) in place. Is there any reason you don't pull it, it will save you a punch of time.
