2007 150 hp Mercury Optimax engine alarm sounds at low rpm

Customer Question

2007 150 hp Mercury Optimax engine alarm sounds at low rpm after engine runs at high rpm for 20 minutes or more. If I do not run engine over 2500 rpm from startup engine will run hour or more with no alarm.
This seems to have been a very common discussion item up to 2010. Was the best solution to trade in the engine and buy a Yamaha?

Good morning my name is ***** ***** whom am I speaking with?
The engine will overheat internally with no thermostats installed. When was the last time the cooling system was properly serviced with a new impeller and new thermostats, as well as cleaning out the poppit valves and sea strainer?
