I have a '94 Grady 19' tournament with 200HP Johnson V6; been experiencing stalling problem when putting in gear, first started after couple hours in bay when I slowed down thru low weak areas, ended up having to turn key while in gear to get back into slip. Next chance to try her two weeks later, although started up & idled for 15-20 mins., as soon as tried to get in gear she stalled; repeated tries 4-5 times & same results.
Optional Information: Make (of engine): Johnson Model (of engine): V6 Year: 1994 Horsepower: 200
Post the full model number of motor, some had shift interrupt switches to cut out spark
SERIAL NO: J200TXETF
Relist: Other.never received answer after providing s/n of motor
Welcome, this question may need more than a single answer. Please post back with additional questions on this at any time.Part number 98 is the shift switch for your engine. Follow the wire to the connector and disconnect it. Now try to shift into gear. If it now shifts it is faulty. Check the plunger on the switch moves in and out freely.
Thanks JeffG, do u have any instructions on how to get to this item 98; I'm assuming it is not accessible from exterior of the motor housing?
Remove the engine cover. On the starboard side of the engine the two control cables come to the linkage. One throttle and one shift. The switch is on a small bracket next the the linkages. It is easy to spot. The parts breakdown will show you where it is as well.
