I have a 95 starcraft 19' bass boat that came with a 40hp merc. outboard motor. I shaved part of one of the 3 blades off on a metal I beam hidden under the water. Nothing major but I would imagine that all 3 blades should be equal of maybe it would be out of balance etc. Anyway, my question is, I have the original prop with part # XXXXX 73138 A40L 14P stamped on it but when I tried to match it thru iboats and similar sites there seems to be no match. Also, I have to assume that this is a 2 stroke motor since I have to keep oil in a seperate tank that's mounted to the front of the motor and that automatically mixes with the gas. Is that correct? I'm having a brain freeze but you really don't know these days with all of the technology out there. I do know it's a 4 cyl. (4 sparks plugs).
Optional Information: Make (of engine): merc Model (of engine): 2 stroke Year: 1994-95 Horsepower: 40
Hi my name isXXXXX will assist you today. These questions require a rating. If you are satisfied with my answer please rate 3 or more smilies.I run the rough specs through Mercury's prop selector, they are recommending a 4 blade Spitfire 4 blade aluminum or a Trophy sport.4 blade Stainless Steel. Both on a 14 P.Yes your motor is a 2 stroke. Make sure you keep an eye on the lines from the oil tank to the pump. As they age they become brittle. Yes it is a 4Cyl. Any other questions you may have feel free to ask.
