i have a 1979 70hp evinrude and when i give it a little gas it goes but when you get so far it don t change but when it cheches up it flys why don t it go all at once ?
Hi my name isXXXXX will assist you.
Check for spark miss fire when the engine acts up. If you have a cylinder miss fire that comes and goes this will give your symptoms. Use a timing light to check for a cylinder miass when running. Watch the flashes of the light should be steady with no blipsd or blank spots. If a cylinder is missing swap that cylinder s coil with a known good firing cylinder. If the miss moves with the coil the coil is bad if it stays then you have another ignition component failing. If you have no miss choke the engine when it acts up, if pick up rpms and runs then the carburetor is at fault and needs to be rebuilt. Post back with findings.
some times it has a hard time starting like it is loading up is that part of it ?
An ignition miss can cause hard starting or a flooding carburetor will cause hard starting. This test will show one or the other as the cause. If you have no miss fire it is fuel related being a carb issue or a fuel restriction. Run the engine on another fuel source see if it runs any better. If yes the fuel system is dirty.
it runs fine at low speeds and at high speeds just not in betwen
Same applies the mid range is a load range also. The carb has a mid range jet that could be clogged. There is 3 stages in this carburetor idle # XX, mid # XX and high speed # XX. If any of these jets are clogged or restricted it will affect the engine performance.
