i HAVE A 2007 EVINRUDE ETEC WITH 200 HRS.WAS HAVING PROBLEMS ACCELERATING OUT OF THE HOLE THOUGHT IT WAS FUEL.CHANGED PLUGS, FILTERS, PUMPED OUT FUEL TANK, PUT IN FRESH FUEL.FINally brought it to etec dealer they serviced it.replaced autamatic idle cut off switch, told me that factory setting to run on xd50 setting was changed from xd50 setting to xd100 so it was changed back to factory setting. After servicing boat accelerated and had better throtle response at 3800-5000 rpm.New Problem however aros: boat veery difficult starting.cold start 2-3 cranks...once warm....10-15 cranks though i was calling a tow...finally started...this obviously does leave me with alot of confidnece on the water if she wont start, once started however boat runs great.any ideas....battery is 3 years old..though it could possiblya low voltage situation, i heard etecs are sensitive in this area that they require alot of cranking amps......summers here and i like everyone else want nothing else but to be on the water
OK, first off not your starting problem, but you are much better off running on XD100 then on any other oil. Runs better and longer plug life. Also I have never heard of and idle cut off switch. As far as the hard starting goes something is definately wrong and the ETECs are really not sensitive to battery voltage. The older "ficht" motors are but not the ETECs they actually start very easy just rope starting. A couple of things that might do it are the sparkplugs did you "index" them when installing? Also did the shop do a compression test on the motor and if so what were the results? Lastly your 60 has a water valve that actually tunes the exhaust between, starting/idle and wide open throttle. If that is stuck and not working the engine would be hard to start, but run relatively well once going.
I guess ill check wih my mechanic reference the water valve possible malfunctioning if he cant remidy ill bring to the dealer.im hesitent as last time cost 700 bucks and i exchanged on e problem(not accelerating and putting around at 1700 rpm or 7 knts) for my new problem problems starting.the only thing they adjusted was the the xd 100 back to the 50 setting, but i guess that wont account for the hard starts.I have the rope starter...do u think that will start my engine and bypass problem.last thing my mechanci said he indexed my plugs, what angle should they be in, are both 2 plugs the same......thnx alot for your help. i guess i still like my etec as alot of people cont to say good things about them, but its been a very frustrating experience thus far
