Welcome, this question may need more than a single answer. Please post back with additional questions on this at any time. Can you give me a little more information as to when it dies? IS it gradual, takes a second or two or immediate like turning the key off? How long from starting?Have you tried squeezing the primer bulb?Does it run with the warm up lever raised?
I have squeezed the primer bulb after and before it warms up. yes it will run with no load.but it will die under a loading . Was testing it on the trailer with it in the water. After getting it going from setting all winter, it was doing fine water pump was working and would acutlly push on the pickup with lots of power. Shut it down to check the restart would start fine but after a few min it acted like it was loosing power and would die. at that point it would not push on the pickup.
We will need to check a few things.First get a spark tester, they can be had from any auto parts store. Set it to 7/16" gap and check the spark on all 4 cylinders. It's possible you dropped a cylinder. If the spark is good then we need to check the fuel.First take the fuel line off going to the engine and fill a quart clear jar by squeezing the primer bulb. Let it settle for a short while and see if the fuel separates into distinct layers. If it is a light brown color, dispose of it.Next go to the front bottom of the carb and drain each carb, you will have to remove the air silencer from the front of the carbs. Drain into some paper towels, see if you are getting any water or debris. If there is gum on the drain plug, or heavy discoloration you will have to rebuild the carbs and throughly clean them.Let me know the results of each of these procedures. Thanks
