I have a Mecury 1400, serial number 486686. Would it be worth putting in over 1000 dollars in parts to fix the electrical system, a new trigger, and fix the caurberator? Also the motor has doesnt have great or bad compression.
Optional Information: Make (of engine): Mercury Model (of engine): 1400 Year: 1972? Horsepower: 140 Already Tried: It is in a shop and i dont know if it is worth fixing.
Hello, welcome to JustAnswer. because of the range of possible issues, this may take more than one post. Please, don't hesitate to reply.
The motor isn't worth $1000 in good running condition. You mentioned the compression. If the compression isn't at least 100 psi in each cylinder with the difference between the highest and lowest cylinders no more than 15%. If you are close to or below that. Absolutely do not spend the money. If the motor has strong sentimental value, maybe. But I wouldn't put that much into that motor. Not at all.
