Sorry it took so long, tried all suggestions, no change. Rebuilt carburetors with new oem kits last year. Took fuel pump and had vacuum tested, it was good. A little history from last year, when out on water, boat would run rough at low speed, but would run wide open Great! Rebuilt carburetors again with new kits, now after reassembling today will run if hitting electric choke intermittently and runs at high RPM's but will immediately die when throttle down. Sounds like same problem as last year. Thank you for your time. Please let me know what I can do!
Hi!If activating the
electric choke primer has a positive affect it sounds like you still have a lean condition in your carburetors. I recommend you try to isolate which cylinder or cylinders are lean. Use a metal squirt can with pre-mix fuel and spray raw fuel into each carb venturi one at a time while running at the rpm where the symptom exists. This will momentarily richen the lean condition. You can also try covering the ventura one at a time with your hand restricting the air flow into the carb and affectively richening the mix. In either case safety is important and use due care while troubleshooting. If you removed and inspected all of the fuel and or air orifices in the carbs there may still be a restriction in a fuel pick up tube or possibly a cracked tube or nozzle. Hopefully the latter is not an issue as it would require a replacement carburetor. Please let me know what you find with these tests.
Thank You. If I find the lean carb. how do I fix prob.

Either by cleaning the restriction out with a small wire (like used with tag labels or very fine welding tip cleaner etc) and you must be very careful when doing this. Check for flow through the tubes-passages with compressed air and cleaning solvent (like brake clean or Evinrude cleaning solvent). If a tube is cracked it may be hard to see and detect but the brake clean and a magnifying glass helps with this too. I hope you will find just a piece of trash blocking a passage or tube. We use Evinrude engine tuner (you can purchase this at dealer) to soak clean the carbs on a carb rebuild. It is a pretty aggressive cleaner but only thing that will dissolve debris and gum from bad fuel in carbs and usually not harm them. Care must be taken to not leave it on the carbs for too long. It really is the best product for this however. Keep me informed on what you find. Good luck and thank you.
How are things going with project? May I assist further? Thank you.
