My neighbor has an older boat with an Evinrude 75 outboard engine. The boat and the engine came with no instructions. They want to go fishing tomorrow. I have lived around the "waters". Their b/engine is very loud and smoking our 4 plex of townhouses totally out. 1. Is there a separate oil and gas? 2. Or does the engine require a oil and gas mixture? Thanks for your time! And maybe your info/to me will get me a boat ride in the great NW!Linda
Optional Information: Make (of engine): EVINRUDE Model (of engine): 75343 Year: couldn't find Horsepower: 75 Already Tried: Just starting it up. The guys are tinkering with it. But don't know the engine's requirements. And I don't want to have them ruin the engine.
Welcome, this question may need more than a single answer. Please post back with additional questions on this at any time. The engine uses a mix of 50 to 1 oil mixed in the fuel, 1 pint to 6 gallons of gas. Use a good quality fuel, old fuel or partially clogged carbs will cause a lot of smoke, as will cheap oils. Use a quality oil and you don't need to mix at a higher ratio. You may want to run an engine cleaner such as Engine Tune or Ring Free or Quickleen, to loosen any sticking rings and clean the interior of the engine, which will help with smoke.I would also change the spark plugs to make sure you are firing well.
