Got a 60hp Yamaha outboard. While running, engine will bog

Customer Question

Got a 60hp Yamaha outboard. While running, engine will bog down even with throttle open full, but doesnt shut off. Put back into nuetral, rev engine with throttle lever, then put back into gear and engine will run at full speed again for approx 3 miles then repeat the whole process. What could be causing this condition? Ethanol?

check your plugs also, if they are wet the fuel pump is bad, try pumping the primer bulb and see if that helps, if it does you have a bad fuel put and or bad fuel lines with air leaks. the best is to run boat with aux gas tank and fuel line

Replaced fuel pump even though spark plugs were dry. I did connect an external tank to the engine and engine still did not want to idle, and still bogged down when running full throttle. I went ahead and replaced water sperator again, and also replaced fuel filter. Almost feels as if it is only running on 1 cylinder when acting up.

do a compression check and spark check, it could be dropping a cylinder or the idle needs to be turned up a little
