Resolved Question:

I have a Tohatsu 3.5 hp 2 cycle outboard motor I use on my sailboat. It has been sitting a while, but I started it and it runs fine. I'm worried though, very little water seems to be coming from the cooling port discharge tube. How much water should come from the tube and if it isn't enough is there a screen or filter I can clean?

Hi,
Theres should be a nice solid steady stream coming out.
If there's not then it's likely especially since you say it's been sitting a while that the impeller in the water pump needs to be replaced.
Most marine mechanics will recommend you replace the impeller each year.
It's fairly simple and not very expensive to do.

Where would I find one and how hard are they to change?
Expert:  Jeremy R. replied 6 years ago.
You can get a new impeller at any Tohatsu dealer.
Click Here for a parts break down.
This will show you exactly how it breaks down.
There's 3 bolts to take out. You'll see the shift linkage move at that point up in the powerhead housing.
Take that linkage loose and the whole lower end will come apart.
The impeller part number you need isNNN-NN-NNNN
You can punch that number into google and take your pick of parts stores that sell them
They are about $16 US

still need help with this?

No thanks. My motor was a Nissan "3.5A". Impeller was right behind the prop, no problem.

Thanks for your help.
